For my bowl, I chose a motif of food, symbolizing the ever-present need to fill these “empty” bowls.  The concept of soup kitchens hit the mainstream of U.S. consciousness during the Great Depression, becoming a place where free food is offered to the poor and homeless.  The colors of vegetables commonly found in soup are the colors I wanted to use on a dark blue background. The project was enjoyable work and included the added bonus of increasing awareness of hunger and related issues.
