My piece is meant to encourage its viewers to imagine a world without hunger, and to realize that we can achieve it. The lyrics to John Lennon’s song “Imagine” are around the top, inside of the bowl. “Imagine no possessions. I wonder if you can. No need for greed or hunger. A brotherhood of man. Imagine all the people, sharing all the world. You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one. I hope someday you’ll join us, and the world will live as ONE.” The colors are earth tones in order to remind the viewer of all the good our earthly resources can do, if only we distribute them properly. Orange is significant in the bowl, as it is the color of hunger awareness. Lastly, if you look closely at Earth in the center, “ONE” is emphasized and the United States can be seen behind it. This is to remind the viewer that we are more than American citizens. We are citizens of the world, and as such, it is time to do our part to eradicate hunger.
