When thinking about hunger, the first thing that comes into mind is all the malnutrition that children go through in third world countries. Therefore, my bowl is concentrated on Haiti, and the hunger that people go through in that country. I wanted my message to come across clearly, which is why I used a dark black as the bowl’s base color, to make sure the writing and designs’ bright colors caught people’s attention. If you look closely the top part of the bowl is a clay model of a Haiti beach called Capa-Haiten. The island model serves as a lid, and once it is removed a message is written within, it reads DISCOVER THE TRUTH. The truth is that Haiti has a lot of wonderful resources which could make it a prosperous country. To express this more positive side of the country I wrote RICHESSE, which is French for richness on the islands water. The only thing stopping Haiti from progressing is the oppression and political issues. Which brings us to the message written around the bowl, IF THE RESOURCES ARE THERE…? WHY IS THERE STILL HUNGER? A question that is yet to be solved.
